    DJM40103 Power Electronics Sesi 21/22
    NOR AFIFAH BINTI MUHAMAD RAMZI

    DJM40103 Power Electronics Sesi 21/22

Power electronics is the application of solid-state electronics to the control and conversion of electric power.

The first high power electronic devices were made using mercury-arc valves. In modern systems, the conversion is performed with semiconductor switching devices such as diodesthyristors, and power transistors such as the power MOSFET and IGBT. In contrast to electronic systems concerned with transmission and processing of signals and data, in power electronics substantial amounts of electrical energy are processed. An AC/DC converter (rectifier) is the most typical power electronics device found in many consumer electronic devices, e.g. television sets, personal computersbattery chargers, etc. The power range is typically from tens of watts to several hundred watts. In industry, a common application is the variable speed drive (VSD) that is used to control an induction motor. The power range of VSDs start from a few hundred watts and end at tens of megawatts.

    DJM30073 DIGITAL SYSTEM SESI 21/22
SITI ZALEHA BINTI CHE HARUN .NOR AFIFAH BINTI MUHAMAD RAMZI

    DJM30073 DIGITAL SYSTEM SESI 21/22

Digital systems are designed to store, process, and communicate information in digital form. They are found in a wide range of applications, including process control, communication systems, digital instruments, and consumer products. The digital computer, more commonly called the computer, is an example of a typical digital system.

A computer manipulates information in digital, or more precisely, binary form. A binary number has only two discrete values — zero or one. Each of these discrete values is represented by the OFF and ON status of an electronic switch called a transistor. All computers, therefore, only understand binary numbers. Any decimal number (base 10, with ten digits from 0 to 9) can be represented by a binary number (base 2, with digits 0 and 1).
